Its been a little quite as of late in the Valley of the Swan. A strange winter peroid. It reminds me a little bit of 2005. We are starting to see snow accumulating up in the higher elevations. While we do have a lot of water in the reservoir I dont think we will have the same high water issues as last year....keep your fingers crossed! We still have a lot of winter to go. We will be at the Fly-Fishing show in New Jersey this weekend. The Show is in Somerset N.J at the Garden State Convention Center. Please stop by and say hello! This is a great show.
The Fishing has remained solid on the South Fork, Midges almost everyday. Today is cold so I think I may give the trout in front of the Lodge a break. Small beads heads like a red zebra midge fished under a brown rubber legs workes just about anytime! the flows are at 3090cfs so a trip down the canyon is going to be all day. Remember the Cotton Wood access is not an option this time of the year so if you dont have a motor, plan on being on the water from sun up until dark. BE PREPARED! As always llok for trout to be holding in slow moving water.
The access points on the upper are still usable but 4wheel drive and chains are not a bad idea. You can also leave the boat at home and just do a walk wade trip. This is a great way to experience the river this time of year. The quite and the solitude are second to none! Great wildlife viewing and bird watching as well as some great fishing! The deadly tripple threat! Please give us a call if your interested in walk wade day on the water. Hope to see some of you at the show!
Also our Guide school is almost full so if you have dreamed of becoming a professional guide please get in touch with us soon! I have four spots left. Also we have several open spots left in our Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes please look at the schools on the web-site and call us with any questions.
