I had the opportunity to get out again and do some more fishing yesterday and it was good! I had the pleasure of fishing with Ian the general manager here and LaMoyne Hyde from Hyde Drift Boats. www.HydeBoats.com. The fishing was great! Lots of trout up on the surface eating midges, in places there were 20 to 30 trout eating on the top. The emergence was going strong when we put the boat on around 12:00 and we had solid fishing until 3:00. I spent most of the day rowing but did do a little streamer fishing with only one good eat……I missed!? This has to be one of the best winters for fishing in a lot of years! Get out here and take advantage of this pleasant weather and have some fun!

President’s day is almost here. I know my kids have the Monday off and I think its time to get them out on the water. One of the great things about early spring on the South Fork is not only the fishing but the wildlife viewing can be outstanding! Just recently on the upper river we spotted 4 moose numerous deer and the bird watching was amazing! Golden eyes Trumpeter Swans and Bald Eagles just to name a few. Also don’t forget about the fishing. Trout are eating midges in slack water all over the river. The best fishing generally happing around 12:00 until about 3:00 pm. Fish small dries until your heart is content. I have also had some great streamer fishing this winter. The key is to just slow down your presentation. The Midge hatch over the weekend was spectacular! Mild weather and a little overcast on Saturday was the perfect recipe for a epic midge hatch. I took a little walk on Saturday from the Conant boat ramp down to the first set of cliffs and found cutties and rainbows feeding on midges just about everywhere you would expect them to be. I was fishing a #18 hi vis griffth gnat and was having great success. Also I tried fishing a #18 red zebra midge about a foot under a 1/2 inch thingamabobber and really got after the trout! I fished all day using both techniques and had a great day! This winter has been very fish friendly so shake off some cabin fever and get out here

Today's Report

Not a lot of news to report today. The mild winter has made fishing on the South Fork great! I have been telling everybody that this winter reminds me of the winter of 2005. If the winter stays the same at it is know then we are going to have great summer. There is a lot of winter to go but I am very excided we may have a great spring! Its of course to early to tell and I will make no promies but I think this spring will be the one to be here!

I am back from the big city! The New Jersey fly-fishing show was great! Very well attended and very busy. The Outfitters will also be attending the Pleasanton CA show Feb-24th thru the 26th and we will be at the stone flys tying expo April 6th and 7th. The Idaho Falls tying expo will April 20th and 21this year. We will be there!

It starting to look a little like winter here in Swan Valley Idaho!

I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas! I know I did. Being able to spend time with My lovely Daughter and my three hellion boys is priceless! I got a couple of Clint Eastwood movies, Heart Break Ridge and High Plains Drifter to be exact and some Garlic Stuffed Olives! Yum!
